Dear Church Family,

Apostle Paul knew that the time of his departure was near. He was absolutely content and wrote “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the righteous judge will give to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing”.

What was the secret or power of his life? What made him so confident as he came to the end of his life journey? The only secret could be, he was a man of prayer. It is prayer and prayer alone that could make him fruitful and content. From the time he was born again, Paul is seen as a man of prayer. As we see in Acts 9:11, the Lord commands Ananias to go to Paul and the reason given is “Behold he is praying” even a casual reading of Paul’s letters indicate the priority he placed on Prayer. Paul was just following the example set by our Lord Jesus Christ. The Gospels are replete with examples of the Lord Jesus praying. I wish to quote  only four examples  from the life of Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out to a solitary place and there He prayed. Mark 1:35
  • And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by himself to pray. Matthew 14:23. The context tells us that he was praying for at least 12 hours
  • He went out to the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God. Luke 12:6
  • So he often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed. Luke 5:16

Our Lord was thoroughly content as He faced the cross he declared “I have completed the work you gave me to do and brought you glory on earth”.

Let us follow Paul in the life of prayer. Let us follow the Lord Jesus in the life of prayer. Let us pray and be fruitful and content. Have a blessed week.
